The fight scenes are among the best (if not the best) in any Telltale game. The action flows well and every landed blow always feels satisfyingly crunching. The commands are thrown at you pretty thick and fast as well, which makes it even better when you successfully string a combo together.
The different storylines introduced in this first episode are all interesting, and overall it does a great job of setting future episodes up. There’s plenty to work with, so hopefully they deliver the goods.
Although there’s plenty going on in this episode (and as previously mentioned, it’s clear that much of it is to set things up for future episodes) some scenes felt much slower than others and there were moments when the dialogue dragged on a bit. They weren’t necessarily “bad” scenes, but hopefully the episodes that follow will keep the momentum going a bit better – assisted in no small part by the establishing work done in this episode.
Despite being slow at points, this first episode has set things up nicely for future episodes. With great fight scenes, gorgeous visuals and the introduction of some very interesting storylines, this is shaping up to be another great Telltale series.
